====== Direct Linking ====== A related HOWTO on image sharing (posting on forums, blog etc.) can be found [[howto:image_sharing|here]]. ===== How to link to your photos? ===== If you put photos on PBase, you probably want other people to see them. Here are the correct URLs to use to send people to your galleries and photos. For these examples, the username "slug" will be used. Replace with your own username. To link to your root gallery (all of your galleries) example:http://www.pbase.com/slug To link to one of your galleries example:http://www.pbase.com/slug/japan To link to a single image using default size example:http://www.pbase.com/slug/image/23 To ink to a single image with specific size example:http://www.pbase.com/slug/image/23/medium Also check out [[http://forum.pbase.com/viewtopic.php?t=2295#104|this explanation]] in pbase forum. Direct linking to an image for use on another website, forums, or message board. Due to bandwidth costs, you can only use this feature if you have paid. This works just like linking to an image page but append .jpg to the end of the URL. example:http://www.pbase.com/slug/image/23.jpg example:http://www.pbase.com/slug/image/23/medium.jpg The number in the image URLs is that photo's image_id which is a unique number across the site. You can find this number by viewing that photo and looking at the URL in your browser's address/location bar near the top or by holding your mouse over the thumbnail for that photo, and looking at the URL in your browser's status bar at the bottom. IMPORTANT Please use only the hostname www.pbase.com or pbase.com in your URLs. These will always work. Other hosts such as image2, genjaro, www2, ji, or anything similar might work or seem to work at first, but are server specific and may become invalid as the site hardware architecture changes. One goal of pbase is to never break incoming links to the site. When changes are made to the URL structure, the old ways still work. But for this to work, you must use the official URLs as explained above. ===== Direct link not working? ===== Read through the method of direct linking properly. Make sure you are using only www.pbase.com or pbase.com in your URL (and not names like "genjaro" and "www2"). Direct linking support is restricted to paid members only (pbase supporters). If you haven't become a paid member, check out Pbase Pricing and become one. ===== Who is linking to my photo ===== As of now, there is no way in which you can find out who is direct linking to your images. It is an often requested feature and hopefully it will be implemented soon. However, please note that even if you have a very large counter value for your direct links, it need not mean that someone has illegally linked to your image. It has been found that the direct link counter is incremented even if you just copy the full URL of your image and paste it on your browser and press enter. If you are really concerned with illegal links, try searching for your image url or your pbase link in google. For example, once in a while I (Srijith) do a check on my pbase url, using link: pbase.com/srijith
